Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth can cause an array of both acute and pain free problems. We often see patients with acute infections around their wisdom teeth, but at other times they have been impacted and caused decay of the tooth in front. They can grow out sideways into the cheek, be part of the crowding problem many people have or just decay badly as they can’t be reached with a tooth brush.
There is no one rule with wisdom teeth. Some are very simple to remove, but at other times we will refer our patients to a specialist to have all four removed under a general anaesthetic.
Nevertheless, on some occasions where there is the space, wisdom teeth can erupt happily and function like any other normal tooth. If you are aware that you have wisdom teeth you should have them checked to ensure they are not causing a pain free but major problem.
